During our last patio session, Neil disappeared for a couple of minutes while Jeremy and I were playing around with some sounds. He returned with an assortment of various oddities from his nearby shed. He then set these items out in a drum kit-like pattern around him and proceeded to play the collection of flowerpots, lawn chairs and tables. I picked up a large plastic flowerpot and began to play it as I would with a Djembe, integrating snaps and claps throughout. Jeremy carried us through this random assortment of percussion with a melody from the keys.
In post-production, I decided we needed to do something a little different with this one. Rather than just have a relatively clean track, I decided to layer various effects on there to make it sound strangely organic. Jeremy’s keys sound a bit like a guitar with a wah pedal. The percussion mutates in crazy ways throughout the track. It’s really fun to listen to.
