Sugar and Gunfire is something recorded while I was playing solo during a m0dule session break.
As with most of the m0dule material, more electronic sounds are utilized, however, the lyrics and vocal samples near the end are samples of lyrics and vocals that are used with chilljam so it’s interesting mix of both worlds.

As you might have already noticed, chilljam just got a bit of a restyle. I apologize for the long wait. After the site problems we experienced several months ago, which led to the destruction of chilljam’s last theme, I hadn’t had much of a chance to get to styling the new site properly…until today! Please let us know what you think of the new style. We’re trying to keep things relatively simple but add in some of the elements that helped define the site in the past.
Also, I wanted to bring up that the site just passed a major milestone with 20,000 downloads this week! It’s pretty amazing to think of how far we’ve come over the years and it’s great to know that there are so many others out there that are into listening to our work.
Thanks to everyone who’s been hanging out with us and checking out our material.

This one is pretty crazy. I did a bunch of really odd twists with pitch and speed adjustments both in the recording as well as in post production. Tony’s got some ripping saw wave bass pummeling through the skirmish. 01.19.11

For New Years Eve this year, Tony and I got together and just jammed out a bunch of sounds for hours, eventually leading into this set. The final song rang in the New Year as we went upstairs to celebrate with our wives and let the final song play itself out into 2011. 01.4.11

Jason Zeh came up last week just before New Years all the way from Ohio to jam with us while he was here in Maryland over the holiday break. We started playing around with a web application called thedeadline.com lately at work and were fascinated with the unique voice of the presenter in its introduction video. I decided to take a quick sample of a section of the video (starts around 7:22) and use it while Tony and I were jamming and this song was born.

Further exploration with the iPad this week. I’ve not mixed music in a long, long time, but gave it a shot with the new djay application from Algoriddim. It’s amazing, however, it’s got some key problems, mostly notably that it has some major memory leaks. This causes the app to crash suddenly after 10-20 minutes of play, making it difficult to make it through an entire set without disaster occurring. However, for this mix, I recorded directly into Audacity. Each time the application crashed, I’d blur it back in with the same song so that it sounded as fluid as possible. There are still tempo difference issues for these parts but it’s as smooth as I could make it without more work.
For now, I just wanted to put something together to play around with it. Pretty neat app, but it’ll take some work before I can integrate it fully into work that we do with Chilljam regularly.

This is a beautiful mess.
By all accounts this song is a disaster. But somehow it seems to come together in an odd way. It sticks together like a mutating beast puking up its breakfast.
Not exactly a pop song, but it was a fun experiment integrating different iPad instruments and effects done in post-production.

Playing around with Reactable, an iPad application with an interesting approach to making music, I recorded Wallah. Lots of experimenting going on in here. There were times I wasn’t sure who was in control, me or the iPad.
