Sugar and Gunfire is something recorded while I was playing solo during a m0dule session break.
As with most of the m0dule material, more electronic sounds are utilized, however, the lyrics and vocal samples near the end are samples of lyrics and vocals that are used with chilljam so it’s interesting mix of both worlds.

This one is pretty crazy. I did a bunch of really odd twists with pitch and speed adjustments both in the recording as well as in post production. Tony’s got some ripping saw wave bass pummeling through the skirmish. 01.19.11

For New Years Eve this year, Tony and I got together and just jammed out a bunch of sounds for hours, eventually leading into this set. The final song rang in the New Year as we went upstairs to celebrate with our wives and let the final song play itself out into 2011. 01.4.11

Jason Zeh came up last week just before New Years all the way from Ohio to jam with us while he was here in Maryland over the holiday break. It was a great set and we’re definitely looking to playing again whenever he can make another trip up (or perhaps one day we can take a trip to Ohio to play!). Further exploration with the iPad this week. I’ve not mixed music in a long, long time, but gave it a shot with the new djay application from Algoriddim. It’s amazing, however, it’s got some key problems, mostly notably that it has some major memory leaks. This causes the app to crash suddenly after 10-20 minutes of play, making it difficult to make it through an entire set without disaster occurring. However, for this mix, I recorded directly into Audacity. Each time the application crashed, I’d blur it back in with the same song so that it sounded as fluid as possible. There are still tempo difference issues for these parts but it’s as smooth as I could make it without more work.
For now, I just wanted to put something together to play around with it. Pretty neat app, but it’ll take some work before I can integrate it fully into work that we do with Chilljam regularly.

Apologies to everyone for disappearing for so long.
Several weeks ago we were asked to perform at a fundraiser for Team Maryland at the Greene Turtle in Frederick. We agreed to play but wanted to work out a fluid set mixed with songs we could improvise on, yet work with some structure. We also threw in some covers, such as this video of Jeremy and Neil playing Blackbird, by the Beatles.
Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks as we release other performances from this set.

Here’s a slight change of pace with Amber Scott covering Angel from Montgomery, an old country song written by John Prine in 1971. Amber and myself recorded this live just the other night because Amber felt like singing again after all these years. This is a song we always played well together. Matthew Hundley added some sweet guitar licks that put it all together.
